Getting By With a Little Help for My Friends - Sermon Plug

The center of the chiasm that is Habakkuk contains the phrase, "The just shall live by faith." It is the central point of that book, and Paul cites it in a way that shows it to be the central point of Romans. A sermon on all that is found here.

In this sermon, Pastor, were you essentially arguing that the "liveliness" and "obedience" of faith (as in "living faith" or "obedient faith") is tied in with the nature of faith relative to the command of God, no? Did I understand you correctly?

WCF 11:2's use of "no dead faith" has not to do with faith relative to the command of God, but faith relative to the ensuing life of the believer which flows from faith - it is a faith working by love. Thus, the "no dead faith" of the Confession is relative, it seems, to sanctification. The only reason I bring up the comparison between your sermon and the Confession is that you appeal to the Confession in your sermon. But I don't think your reason for calling faith "living" is the same as the Confession's reason for calling it "no dead."
